Was the movie 300 similar to the battle of Thermopylae?
The real question is how close is it to what we actually “know” about the Battle of Thermopylae. The truth is we don’t actually know very much about it. The storyline for “300” has been embellished over the years (naturally) but in bulk all we know comes from the historian Herodotus. Now given the times Herodotus did the best he could but it should be noted his history was what amounts to as being “stuff people told me” Herodotus while criticized for not being Greek enough was in fact a through and through Athenian. And as such he does tend to laud the achievements of the Greeks at the expense of the Persians. The victors write the history books as they say.
