Was the M.P.40 the best submachine gun of WW2?
I wouldn’t say it was the best SMG of the war but it would be in the top 3. It’s 9mm round gave it good power, the design was relatively simple and easy to manufacture and it was quite accurate. The biggest issue was that when held incorrectly, that is with the hand on the magazine instead of the bottom of the main weapon body, the magazine could jam. Also, the folding stock was found to be easily breakable. All round it was a generally good weapon, but as with all weapons it had its problems. The German Stg 44 Assault Rifle was a much better weapon (although not a SMG). .
