No, you will still need to submit claims after May 23 with your NPI number. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that it will not impose penalties on covered entities, including pharmacies and health plans, for non-compliance with the National Provider Identifier (NPI) requirement provided a good faith effort and contingency plan are made to comply with the requirement. This announcement related to penalties does not mean that there is extra time (up to 12 months) to delay getting your NPI. To ensure that your NPI has been received by NCPDP, CCRx recommends that you confirm your status with NCPDP at its Web site. Verification ensures that the prescription drug claims you submit to MemberHealth for CCRx patients will be processed after May 23, 2007, which is the date required by HIPAA for all providers to be compliant in utilizing an NPI.
