Was the director Lee Unkrich intimately involved with the writing of “Toy Story 3”?
Lee was down in the trenches with me every single day. Since he´s such a great editor and so familiar with the characters, I felt free to step on the gas and churn out pages and ideas as fast as possible, and trust that Lee would separate the wheat from the chaff. It ended up being a great collaboration. Do you think that if you had a second chance now to rewrite the screenplay of “Toy Story 3,” you would change something, and if this is the case, what exactly? I spent three years writing (and rewriting) “Toy Story 3” and I can honestly say there´s not a single thing I´d like to go back and change. I think it turned out pretty well. I love the explanation of how a screenplay is constructed. You really nail the main points in a simply told yet richly informative bonus feature. It´s going to be an invaluable resource for would-be screenwriters. In retrospect, what do you wish someone would have told YOU about screenwriting that you ended up having to learn yourself? Um . . . Everything.
