I can confirm that it is John Sullivan who sings the theme to ‘Only Fools… ‘. He wanted Chas and Dave to record it but they were busy. He recorded it within a few hours, a bit ‘tipsy’ as he needed to control his nerves !

It does sound like the song is sung by Nick Lyndhusrt.

“John Sullivan wrote the theme music for Only Fools and Horses when he wrote the first series, but the producers opted instead for an instrumental, saxophone-led tune composed by Ronnie Hazlehurst, who had also arranged the themes for other BBC sit-coms, such as Yes Minister and Last of the Summer Wine.

It really does sound like Nick Lyndhurst, but the credits are to John Sullivan who wrote and sung the song and also wrote the scripts for the programme!

i thought it was rodney, until i read the above answers but they are right i think it is john sullivan and not chas and dave.
