While Car Robots was originally conceived to feature new characters in a setting separate from the other Transformers series, Hasbro made the decision to tweak the toy line and cartoon series slightly to make it more reminiscent of G1. This included renaming several characters after familiar faces from G1, painting new Autobot and Decepticon symbols to applicable toys, and adding dozens of G1 references to the translated scripts as well as dubbing in the classic transforming sound effect.
