Was RA an Egyptian god and if so what was his seniority in the hierarchy.?
He was. At first he was considered one of many, each powerful and responsible for a specific thing(s) in his/her own right, but in the New Kingdom he rose to greater dominance. I forget which Pharaoh it was, but one tried to make Egypt monotheistic by asserting Ra was the only god (all other gods a variation of Ra). My history might be a little shaky. I’m not really into Egyptology. Edit: Okay, Reuters claims it was Akhenaten who tried to convert the Ancient Egyptians to monotheism, and his god was Aten, the disc of the sun. This was probably a variation of Ra, however, since he was generally believed throughout Egyptian history to be the God of the Sun. Also, apparently it was much earlier than the new kingdom. Thanks for interesting me more in this topic. Your question made me want to do a little research. Star!
