Was Queen (rock band) over-rated or under-rated?
They were under-rated. The critics couldn’t stand them. The band kept trying new things and breaking new barriers that it was impossible to categorize them. They were all master magicians from the start and Freddie’s voice was unlike anything ever heard before. Sure there were multi-octave singers before but not with the voice quality he had. Radio stations were frustrated by them because they often wrote songs that were considered too long for airplay. Remember, the only reason Bohemian Rhapsody was played on the radio is because Freddie gave a copy to Kenny Everett and he played it every hour on his show. Also, “Bohemian Rhapsody” is considered to be the first video recorded for promotional purposes. As for the fans, they either loved Queen or hated Queen. There was no middle-of-the-road.
