Was Queen Elizabeth the first really the most successful monarch in the world?
– For the Anglo world her reign represents the turning point between a small nation of 3 million people to the beginnings of the great power and overwhelming influence of anglo culture, Richard III died on the battlefield and traditionally ended the middle ages. Elizabeth’s grandfather, and father ran a country that was still uniting. Elizabeth’s siblings, Mary and Edward were overwhelming concerned with religion. Elizabeth rebased the currency and provided an economic base for a fast growing population, de-emphasized religion, and set England up for the colonization that would occur after her death. – However, she was more of a survivor than anything. I am not sure I would even consider her the most succesful queen. Isabel of Spain was probably one of the most capable women rulers of all time.
