Was pickpocketing extras part of staying in character?
Eden: Yeah, but we gave it back. One time the magician actually took Roman Polanski’s watch off without him knowing. We were sitting there watching it. Clark: He taught us loads of magic tricks as well. Oliver doesn’t actually have to pick a pocket in the film, but I used to do it anyway. Q. How was working with Sir Ben Kingsley? A: He stayed in character, and then the boys started to stay in character and I wondered what was going on. Foreman: It helps the kids very much as well, he was very conscious of what he was doing for the young guys. He would talk to them all like it; that’s his thing and it works. Q. Did you have to go through a lengthy audition process? Eden: I went for a workshop in London, and then went to see Celestia Fox, the casting director, twice. And then I went to Prague to meet Roman Polanski himself, and he gave me the job there and then. I couldn’t believe it. Clark: It was the same process for me except Roman didn’t give me the job there and then. There was me a
