Was Niagara Falls man-made or founded by a person – and if so, who by?
Created by nature and maintained by man. The water flow over both the Horseshoe and American Falls is about 50% of what would naturally occur. The rest is diverted to power plants on both sides of the border. This has substantially reduced erosion which even with the diversion is about 2 feet per year on the Horseshoe falls and even less over the American. The American falls are also somewhat more fragile than the Horseshoe falls. The US Army Corps of Engineers have actually drilled drainage tunnels as well as rock anchors to help hold the rock around the American side in place.
