Was Moses (which means prince) an Egyptian?
The birth of Moses occurred at a time when Pharaoh had commanded that all male children born to Hebrew captives should be thrown into the Nile (Ex. ii.; comp. i.). Jochebed, the wife of the Levite Amram, bore a son, and kept the child concealed for three months. When she could keep him hidden no longer, rather than deliver him to death she set him adrift on the Nile in an ark of bulrushes. The daughter of Pharaoh, coming opportunely to the river to bathe, discovered the babe, was attracted to him, adopted him as her son, and named him “Moses.” Thus it came about that the future deliverer of Israel was reared as the son of an Egyptian princess (Ex. ii. 1-10). Yes, he was Egyptian.
Moses was raised as an Egyptian, as he was rescued by someone in the Pharaoh’s household, and they hid his heritage. Later Moses finds out he is Jewish, and joins his people. After killing an Egyptian, he flees to the land of the Midian. He comes back to Egypt to free the Jewish people from slavery.
