Was Maximilian Robespierre A Communist?
~Robespierre was guillotined on July 28, 1794. Marx and Engels did not “invent” communism until 1848. That being the case, no Robespierre could not have been a communist. If you want to profile figures from history by labeling them with inapplicable, non-existent or inappropriate labels, then you will have to explore the political and philosophical constructs, together with the ideas that evolved into the modern titles (which in many case, like communism for instance, have no real identity with their original sources and foundations) and apply what you find with the ideologies of those with whom you wish to paint by that particular brush. In doing so, you may find that the settlers of Jamestown in 1607 were true communists while Robespierre was a Stalinist Jeffersonian.
