Was Lon Chaney Jr. not an exact choice in the SON OF DRACULA 1944?
…although I have since come to accept the film as one of the great Universal horror classics, I have always been sort of put off and askewed by the casting of Lon Chaney, Jr., in the role of Dracula, as compared to Lugosi’s interpretation in 1931; seemingly, the filmmakers tried to emulate something much more closer to the historical ‘Dracula’, Vlad Tepes, by taking advantage of Lon’s looming and towering presence, and slapping on what appears to be a rather abrasive mustache… …rather than emulating Lugosi’s captivating and alluring European stylings and presence, with regards to performing the role as Dracula, Lon Chaney, Jr.’s performance seemed to reflect something much more wholly animalistic….an interpretation, ironically enough, which was expounded upon, when seasoned British actor Christopher Lee assumed the role as Dracula, over at Hammer Film Productions…. …given a skilled, reputed and seasoned filmmaker, coupled with an intriguing and compelling story, which not o
