Was Lelouch not interested at first?
RS: He was sceptical because he thought there was no way you could sell a 9-minute short film on DVD. No one had ever really done that, and I certainly had never released a DVD before, so I don’t think he had much confidence in what I was saying when I told him that we could definitely sell a truckload. I didn’t have a track record, but I knew there was this extraordinary demand. LF: How did Lelouch explain where he got the idea from? RS: He’s a very punctual man. He would admit to being almost compulsive about punctuality. He’d just had a very frustrating experience working on a film, where his main actress was always late, and that got his mind ticking. He was intrigued by the tension and conflict of trying to get somewhere on time. The wherewithal happened at the end of shooting the feature film he finished just before Rendezvous.
