Was John the Baptist beheaded ?
John didn’t have the sense to shut up. He didn’t know any better than to tell the truth and obey his divine commission as a prophet. Maybe he didn’t want to find out what would happen if he refused to denounce Herod Philip’s unlawful marriage. After all, he was familiar with the story of Jonah. I don’t know what changed, but apparently Levirate marriages were no longer practiced in Judea at the time, unless only those who had covenanted to follow God had the opportunity to participate in Levirate marriages. Or maybe I am giving too much credit. Is it possible that Philip was just having an affair with his dead brother’s widow? Anyway, Herodias (?) was so angry at the truth that she got her daughter to manipulate Philip, and John learned what it means to scorn a woman or to tell her something she doesn’t want to hear. Apparently he was one of the many righteous people who were resurrected after Jesus resurrected himself. Confirmation of this can be found in Doctrine and Covenants sectio
