Was Jesus hung on a piece of timber because he said I am the door?
Apparently some do not know that verse so here it is:. John 10:7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. The Romans, who at that time ruled Israel, used crucifixion as a means of putting criminals to death. The material of choice was wood. The above quote was only one of the things that inflamed the Jewish religious leaders. Christ’s teachings gained him followers and the religious leaders saw that as a threat to their own leadership of the people. They wanted him eliminated so they had him arrested and insisted he be executed. As they themselves could not do it because the Romans had that power, Jesus was taken before the Roman leadership and in order to keep the peace in that region, the Romans gave in to the Jewish leaders and the mob they had stirred up.
