Was Jesus Christ impaled on a torture stake?
In support of their position that Jesus died on an upright stake, the WTBTS prints a picture in some of their publications (large ref. ed. study Bibles, purple KIT, p.1156 and blue KIT, p.1155) from a book written in 1629 by Justus Lipsius, based on his studies of the history of crucifixion. It shows a man nailed to a stake, with his hands over his head. In the text, they assert, “This is the manner in which Jesus was impaled.” (purple KIT, p. 1155) The problem is, Lipsius’ book contains 15 other illustrations of crucifixions that their publications don’t mention.
