Was Jane Napolitano right to warn Americans of right wing violence?
Several weeks ago, Secretary of Homeland Security Jane Napolitano warned that right wing elements within the US posed a threat to our safety. In the space of two weeks, violence from the far right has erupted. First, an a prominent doctor who performed abortions was murdered by a right to life activist who told reporters after his arrest that more such attacks would occur. Second, the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC was attacked by someone with a history of right wing extremism. This perpetrator had once been arrested after having been caught heavily armed outside of the Federal Reserve building, and press accounts reveal that he had posted articles challenging President Obama’s citizenship at various web sites. Was Jane Napolitano correct to suggest that we should be concerned about growing violence from the far right?
