I think that anytime an organization takes an offensive lineman with the 1st overall pick, it’s a safe pick. That being said, I also believe it is the smart pick. You can look at taking a QB or a RB but when you improve your offensive line, it makes your QB and RB better. QB’s have more time, RB’s have big holes. Look at this formula that I would live by if I was a GM…. If you improve your line, your QB and RB will improve, but if you improve you skills positions, that doesn’t improve your line. The line improves everyone. Sure you can have a timid RB or an indecisive QB, but that line makes everyone look better. It gives your young skill position players a chance to develop. Without Joe Thomas and Eric Steinbach would Derek Anderson have broken out like that? Would Jamal Lewis look as good as he did? I don’t believe so.
