Was it the roller skating rink on Saturday night?

We went roller skating when I was in my early teens. After I could drive we had what we called the south side strip. It was three restaurants The Tee Pee, White Castle, and Steak and shake. All the kids would drive round and round. Sometimes park and get out and talk, and we could get curb service and the Tee Pee and Steak and shake. My older sister let me ride around with her, and I just thought I was too cool. If it wasn’t that it was going to the Drive in.

Actually it was the ice skating rink on Saturday night. What fun with the family and friends. Then we all would go out to dinner either a “fancy” place or good ol’ Dairy Queen or McDonalds. Best memories in the 1960’s!

Skating was Saturday afternoon. The song, “You Can’t Be True Dear” played by Ken Griffen, on the organ always brings back those memories. That was where I fell and resulted in having knee surgery.

I was deprived. We didn’t have any teen haunts. But I loved roller skating!

Oh my gosh, yes. Every Friday night a school bus would pick us at the elementary school and take us to the rink. We wore above the knee skating skirts and I was lucky enough to have my own skates I lugged around in a red and black skate case. Such FUN, and wonderful memories !
