Was it the roller skating rink on Saturday night?
Saturday night in my teens was the local ice rink and it was ice skating for us at Durham Ice Rink (UK). They played all the top records and we skated all night. My friend and I first went to an ice hockey match and we saw that there was where all the boys were. So that Christmas it was ask Father Christmas (well our dads) for some ice skates, we both got them for Christmas and never looked back. Oh happy days!
Oh yes! The little berg I went to school in started out with a cement rink in the park…ouch…skinned knees and bruises a plenty. Then another berg about a mile up the road converted their community building into a nice wood floor rink that still is in business today. Both of my daughters went every Fri. and Sat night. Now that I’m older, the smell of the place just about knocked me over when I’d go inside to pick them up at the end of the evening. You all know that smell of stinky feet, sweat and such. In the summer time when I was in high school we also went to a little pool that was part of a hotel on Highway 40. Had some great times there. Thanks for the memories.
