Was it right for Damion Frasier to bring the issue of teenagers causing trouble in Showboat parks?
I haven’t been a witness to the disruption teenagers are causing to a playground in Chesaning intended for small children because I don’t live anywhere near Chesaning where Damion Frasier is talking about. What I do know is that very often our leaders respond to the symptoms rather than address the root cause of the problem. Why would teenagers even want to play in a park for small children? I’d recommend the film “Over the Edge” to anyone who lives in a small town and experiences a teenage rebellion problem. In the movie, the teenagers become bored out of their minds and turn to rebellion. Perhaps the teenagers do not have adequate facilities for themselves, or lack entertainment options.
CHESANING – The Village Council could soon take a stance against teenagers who cause trouble around Cole and Showboat parks. Village President Joe Sedlar said there have been issues with teenagers smoking, using harsh language and breaking out rails at the playscape in Cole Park. “They’re not using the facility the way it’s intended,” he said. The disruptive behavior causes problems for children and parents who want to use the area for its intended use – playing, Council members said. Damion Frasier, the Council’s Parks and Recreation Committee chairman, brought the issue before the Council at Tuesday’s meeting. His original recommendation was for the Council to take two actions – requiring kids under the age of 17 to have parental supervision while in Cole and Showboat parks and limiting the age of children allowed inside the playscape in Cole Park to kids age 12 and younger. “It’s not meant for teenagers to be in the playscape,” Frasier said. Trustee Julie Schirle agreed. “It’s a saf
There have been a number of issues going around with teenagers in the parks, including smoking, using foul language, and breaking out rails at the playscape. These issues are reason enough to bring the issue out to the council. Hopefully, they’ll take proper action. Sources: Argus-Press.
