Was it better if Anne Frank just moved to another country instead or just continued hiding?
Hi Erica, The reason the Franks didn’t escape was that there was no place for them to escape to. Please remember, Hitler had control of almost all of Western Europe. He defeated France, so the Franks couldn’t have gone there. And they were already illegally in the Netherlands. And to have gone to other countries, or even to have moved around in their own, they would have had to get identification papers. Everyone was required to register with the police and the Gestapo and receive ID papers. You needed to have them on you at all times; and you also need to get permission of the police if you even wanted to go to travel within your own country. Because the Franks were Jews it was impossible for them to get travel documents or even Identification papers. They had no place to go, and they had no way to get there. They were, in every imaginable way — trapped.
