Yes, he was. I don’t personally know what Ian Thorpe looks like, but I received one email from a fan who said Ian Thorpe was in the background of a scene at Central Perk, while Rachel and Phoebe talked to Joey’s girlfriend (Erin) about how the relationship was going. Supposedly, Ian is the one sitting at a table with a brunette woman in a green sweater. Apparently the Australian tabloids and also the Australian promotions for that episode made quite a big deal of the fact Ian was in this episode, even though he was just an extra (no lines, no credits, no interaction with the cast).
