Was Getting the Beatles on the iTunes Store for Apples Ego or iTunes Fans?
iTunes users have been asking for Beatles music since the store’s inception, to no avail. Due to a long-running dispute between the Beatles corporate music entity – ironically and troublesomely called Apple Corp, and Apple Inc, the better-known company run by the good Mr. Jobs, the Beatles have been among the very few high-profile hold-outs from iTunes sales. Despite Apple’s desire to sell the music, and the desire of fans to purchase it digitally, a deal could not be made between the two companies amidst disputes about company names, terms of sale, and the legal definition of “music distribution.” Many feel that the inability of Apple (Inc) to sell Beatles music on iTunes created a bit of a black eye for the company and stood as an indication that not everyone was yet sold on the security, viability, and need for digital music distribution.
