Gerina Mendoza has survived and thrived in the first two episodes of “The Big Break: Prince Edward Island.” Mendoza, a UTEP graduate from Roswell, N.M., is one of 12 golfers on the popular Golf Channel reality show. The program airs at 7 p.m. each Monday on The Golf Channel (cable Channel 28). The show began with six men and six women all competing for one grand prize of $100,000, along with a $10,000 endorsement fee from Adams golf and a $10,000 shopping spree at Dick’s Sporting Goods. Ten golfers remain — six women, four men. One player is eliminated each week, with two golfers going into a final elimination duel. Mendoza avoided the duel the first week and last Monday she excelled, finishing with the best score of the six women, earning her a $1,000 prize.
