Was Franz Schuberts Symphony No. 8 in B minor left unfinished by the composer?

Schubert actually started work on a third movement of the 8th symphony, but he was interrupted, or lost inspiration or interest. Something happened that took his attention away from it. There are other unfinished movements by Schubert, so it wasn’t an odd thing for him to have done. The third movement was “completed” by a musicologist and a fourth movement dreamed up from other unfinished material Schubert left behind. The Academy of St. Martin-In-The-Fields with Neville Marriner released a set of the “complete” Schubert symphonies that included this and other “completions” of his movements. The general consensus was that they didn’t add anything of value to the Schubert canon.
