With all due respect to your grandma, is it possible that she’s a bit biased. The anger that FDR brought out from the opposition was legendary. They refereed to him as “That man in the White House” refusing to call him “Mr. President” or “President Roosevelt”. It was so bad that after he died they still got revenge on him by passing presidential term limits. To this day conservatives react to his name he was satan incarnate. Of course your Grandma could be a liberal democrat for all I know. Roosevelt came from New York Aristocracy. He wasn’t anywhere as wealthy as the Astor’s, Vanderbilt’s, or Rockefeller’s, but at the time, his family had been richer longer. Money can buy many things, but it can’t buy pedigree. Roosevelt’s name is Dutch for “Rose Garden”. He descended from the original white settlers of New York. He went to the best private prep schools as well as Harvard undergrad and law school.
