Was Christianity harmful to Native American culture?
It is unrealistic to blame a religion for all the problems possessed by another culture it came in touch with. I do not have any expertise in Native American history, but, comparing it with what I do know of Aboriginal history, I am sure there were many incidents and eras that were harmful. But other factors were just as harmful, if not more: white stockmen/cowboys working for cruel white bosses, who used to round tribespeople up and exterminate them, disease, alcohol and secular governmental policies among them. And let us not forget that intertribal warfare also wreaked havoc. In Africa, some tribes sold other tribes to white settlers as slaves. Others in Central America (usually before the coming of white settlers, and ended by Christianity) ritually sacrificed hundreds of thousands of captured slaves AND their own people ANNUALLY to appease their gods. Believe me, if you were to go to even one of those rescued as they were about to have their hearts ripped out while they are alive
