Was “Casablanca” the best movie ever made?
One of its flaws is that it’s overrated! I mean I want to pay this classic due credit – the story has substance, the actors are legendary, the writing is top-notch, and the direction really puts you in a sultry mood. So I might call it the “Best Sultry Movie Ever Made”. But really there’s so much more to movie-making – especially now adays that I think this film falls flat. Plus, I’ve just never cared for the ending. There I said it. Phew! I wanted her to stay. It was clever and poetic of the writers – but the feminist in me screams everytime she gets on that plane! (and btw, I think it’s funny that one of this movie’s “most quotable” lines that everyone throws around doesn’t even exist in the film – no, Sam can’t play it again. Hehe) Here are a few things the film lacks which I might find to be assets to a truly great, “Greatest Movie Ever” type of film: -More symbolism and depth. -More artful direction with beautiful, colorful scenes backdrops.
