Was Broke back mountain about two heterosexual men who hugged eachother.?
This story was definitely about love. Watch it again a few times and you should see that. Although some supposedly heterosexual men do resort to same sex activity in all male environments, this is more about sexual release than any emotional bond. The emotional bond between Jack and Ennis is clear throughout the film. It isn’t a case of them being “jail bent” because they were up on the mountain without any female company. Neither Jack nor Ennis manage to make their romantic relationships with females work. The inability of Ennis to be true to himself and the pain that causes Jack is portrayed brilliantly. If that isn’t something at most gay men can identify with, then I don’t know what is. There was no need to graphic sex scenes (in fact, I don’t there are many movies where graphic sex scenes are justified – and that’s not because I’m a prude, but because these are fake, if you want to see people having sex, get a porn film) this was about the emotional dynamics of their relationship.
