No. You’d have to have paid them hundreds of millions. A large part of the reason they failed was crap looking aircraft design and another major contributor was bad attitude. They had also recently been caught cheating on military contracts, trying to force through very bad deals and hiring their customer’s staff before they had even left the DoD. I have no doubt the F-35 can be made to work. At that time they will have what P-1154 would have given us in the 1960s if the UK MoD hadn’t decided to adopt P-1127 which was only supposed to be a demonstration of principal, not a production aircraft. If you have been involved at that level and you are asking questions like this then you must be either UK MoD or some part of GEC doing study work for them.
