Eastbound traffic approaching the Chesapeake Bay Bridge is facing major delays while one lane of the eastbound span remains closed for an accident investigation, police said. As of 2 p.m., delays began about five miles before the toll plaza, authorities said. The second lane of the eastbound span will likely remain closed until at least 3 p.m. while police investigate a collision between a motorcycle and a vehicle, they said. Both lanes of the eastbound span were closed for about an hour following the 12:45 p.m. accident. One of the two lanes reopened about 1:45 p.m., after a helicopter left to fly the motorcycle driver to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, police said. The extent of the man’s injuries were not known. One lane of eastbound traffic was also moving on the westbound span, said Cpl. Robert Thibodeau, a spokesman for the Maryland Transportation Authority police. Traffic cameras show westbound traffic leaving the Sandy Point State Park area flowing freely.
