WA wine industry to benefit from MDB plan?

The Winemakers Federation thinks reform in the Murray Darling Basin will boost its marketing credentials and could reduce the grape glut. It puts winemakers at odds with most irrigators who have derided the plan to cut production in the Basin. Chief executive of the Winemakers Federation Stephen Strachan says the potential for the reform to reduce oversupply shouldn’t be the emphasis. “Oh look it does, but I think that’s really just a short term issue for us, I don’t think we’d want to put in place long term decisions around water allocations just purely on the basis of our short-term oversupply.
