So now work is punishment? Don’t think so. If someone is poor through lack of education, laziness, or anything else that could be considered their fault having them do something that helps the community while collecting their checks is a good thing. However those who are not able-bodied should still be supported by those of us who are. The types of jobs needed in a community vary. It might be working in a community center, a charity shop, or even selling concessions at youth athletic events so that parents can watch their children. They should be offered the chance to learn a trade and help in how to do interviews so they can get other jobs. They might even need to be taught basic life skills like using an alarm clock or how to dress for a job.
