Repeated light scratch damage sustained during the DVD rental process quickly results in medium damage and then further rentals create a heavily damaged disc. This may seem obvious, but we have observed that many DVD rental stores react to disc scratch damage only when it causes problems for the customer. These problems result in embarrassed and/or harassed staff and, as a result frequent free movies given out to keep the customer happy.
