Away from any direct heat source and out of direct sunlight. A basement is a terrific place. You need to protect it from freezing, so an unheated garage is too cold in winter months. Try to find the coolest spot in your house and store the bulk of your garlic there. Then just have one bulb at a time on your countertop.
