Use only second half of a return ticket?
Only two answers given thusfar have been correct. If you buy a round-trip ticket with the intention of only using the first half, it will be automatically cancelled as soon as you fail to show up for the first half. The only way that a scheme like this would work would be to have the round-trip tickets in the opposite order so that you fly the first half and not the second (which you already note as being more expensive), but it should also be noted that this scheme (known as “throwaway ticketing” is against the terms and conditions of most airlines. The poster who mentioned “back-to-back” ticketing mentioned a term that has nothing to do with the situation presented here. That involves the usage of multiple round-trip tickets in order to avoid the minimum stay requirements on a single ticket and is also against the rules on most airlines. Again, though, the person asking the question is asking about throwaway ticketing and not back-to-back.
