US preparing to discard 100 year old Air Conditioning technology, what about us?
Discarding the 100 year old technology commonly used in today’s air conditioners will help save valuable electrical energy for the country and trim down the heavy electricity bills for the user, during hot summers, NREL says. National Renewable Energy Laboratory USA, recently detailed an air conditioning system that does not use the power-hungry refrigeration compressor or Ozone depleting chemical refrigerants used in your conventional air conditioners. Their goal is to further develop the technology and license it to commercial companies, something that NREL has already done in solar, wind, and other fields. The new system based on Indirect evaporative cooling technique is called the DEVap (Desiccant-Enhanced evaporative) air conditioner. The system uses a combination of techniques to deal with both sensible and latent heat, just like the conventional air conditioner. The System uses an evaporative cooler, which creates cool air by evaporating water from a wet surface with a fan, and c
