It’s not Saffron, which comes from a crocus flower. Several parts of the lotus are edible; the seed are a staple foodstuff in Asia. They are not particularly expensive, however. The dried stems look like mushrooms with beads imbedded in them and cost a bit when added to a flower arrangement.
