URBAN DISPERSION MODELS – ARE THEY GOOD ENOUGH?
The first seminar, held in April, reviewed atmospheric dispersion models and their practical application in the assessment of air pollution concentrations over London. It linked the needs of Local Authorities under the First Review and Assessment of Air Quality, required by the 1995 Environment Act, to the models available, providing information on data and validation work. The presentations also covered the uncertainties in emissions data and modelling results and closed with a discussion led by Dr.MartinWilliams of DETR on what help was now required and where future research should be directed. The seminar was aimed at both modellers and users. Dr. Stephanie Coster of DETR outlined the requirements for Local Authorities under the NAQS and presentations were given by: Dr.David Carruthers of CERC on the application and validation of ADMS over London, Mr. David Carslaw of SEIPH on ambient data modelling in London, Modelling Nitrogen Dioxide over London was presented by Dr.Dick Derwent o
