Unix utilities for Windows?

CygWin provides a unix-like command line for Windows; it even includes a gcc port that will build Win32 API GUI programs and includes an X-Windows server. Here’s the utilities I use within cygwin: • Lynx • tcsh – NOTE that .tcshrc is stored in /WINNT/Profiles/. • perl • ActivePerl • GNU tar I used to use GNU Software for MS-Windows and MS-DOS, but that page seems to have become an advertisement, so check out these instructions for a redhat package manager based installer for cygwin (very cool!). Here’s some unix-like Windows GUI software that I use: • puTTY – A telnet client with built in ssh support • WS_FTP – a GUI FTP client • Tera Term – Telnet/Terminal Emulator • TTSSH: An SSH Extension to Teraterm • MI/X, a low-cost X server for Windows • NetSwitcher facilitates using multiple IP addresses. • ghostscript, free ghostscript interpreter. I run apache on NT as a test web server.
