Under Windows, Fire runs fine for me when Im connected to the local network or in standalone mode but after I use my dialup modem Fire doesnt seem to work. Why?
By default, Fire looks for a valid address from the ethernet card. When you use your dialup modem on COM1 or COM2 port the NetBios configuration is modified so that the dialup takes top priority so that when you try to run Fire after the dialup it looks for its valid address on the COM1 port, the modem. If you were to then verify your hostid you would notice that the hostid would be something like 0x0. Although Fire contains code to try to compensate for this, continuing updates to Windows itself often foils our detection mechanism. The workaround for this issue is to manually re-assign the LANA number associated with the dialup in the NetBios configuration. You will want to re-assign it from the 000 identification to the 003 or 004 identification number. Another option is to put your mxserver into your startup so that at boot time the mxserver is started automatically. You should then be able to successfully run Fire, dial out and continue to use Fire.
