Under what laws does the United Nations enforce its lunar treaty?
Through its Moon Treaty of 1967, the United Nations established that its member states could not claim sovereignty on the Moon. This provision of the Treaty, along with the updated Moon Treaty of 1979 (which became law in 1984), led directly to the founding of the Lunar Republic Society, its claim to sovereignty over Luna, and the creation of The Lunar Registry. The UN is solely an organization of nations on Earth, and was created to maintain order among its member states. The UN has no authority to control or regulate activities beyond its own membership.
