Under what circumstances will a student be removed from a class?
The great majority of student complaints involve some degree of negotiation between student and teacher, often mediated by an Assistant Director. Most complaints are successfully resolved in this way. However, on those rare occasions when a teacher and a student have irreconcilable differences that will interfere with instruction and learning (either for the student involved or the class at large), or if the student is considered a danger to the other students and/or to the teacher, the Director of Undergraduate Studies may remove a student from a teacher’s class. Prior to this action, the Director of Undergraduate Studies will meet separately with the teacher and the student to discuss how to remove the student with as little disruption as possible for all involved. The Academic Coordinator will work with the Directors to find another class for the student.
