Under Islam Hadhari, will non-Muslims have to become Muslims?
• Non-Muslims cannot be compelled to become Muslims under Islam. In the Qur’an God Most High unequivocally states that “there shall be no compulsion in religion” (Qur’an, Al-Baqarah 2: 256); and again, “One who wishes to believe let him believe, and one who wishes to disbelieve, let him disbelieve.” (al-Khaf, 18:29) • The Federal Constitution of Malaysia (Article 3 and Article 11) also guarantees freedom of religion to all people, irrespective of their religious persuasion.
