Under Gov. Patakis tuition credit voucher plan, would tutors need to have any qualifications?
No. The only restriction in the Executive Budget language regarding tutoring is that it must occur outside of the regular school day or year and that the tutor is not “a lineal ancestor or sibling.” For example, tax dollars could be used to pay for a person without a college or high school degree to tutor a twelfth grader in calculus. That would be perfectly acceptable under the proposal.
