Turkish Rhubarb is not native to North America, how did the Indians get it?
There are two correct types of rhubarb, and both can be used interchangeably: Turkish rhubarb (rheum palmatum), and Indian rhubarb (rheum officinale). The words ‘Turkish’ and ‘Indian’ refer to the routes by which these herbs came from China to the Western world. How the North American Indians got them is probably the same way many other non indigenous herbs, which have since naturalized here, came to North America – by the immigrants from Europe over the centuries.
