Our budget is made up of institutional (tuition, fees, and a computer laptop) and personal (room/board, books, transportation, etc.) expenses. For the 1999-2000 academic years, first years should bank on parting with about $40,000. And for second years, it’s about $2,000 less because they’re not paying for another laptop computer. $40,000 in addition to foregone income is a hefty load. One way to manage that cost is through fellowship, an economical alternative to taking out loans. Generally, how many people per class earn a fellowship? Well, 71% of our overall population who applied for aid actually received some form of fellowship funding. I’m limiting that to the 450 full-time students enrolled in our MSIA program.
